Vintage Windows, Linux and Apple
Read the retro connection guide or download the plain ASCII guide. Includes connection ports, terminal settings, gateway options and testing limits.
Download a terminal client
Windows BBS terminal
SyncTERM official releases are recommended for ANSI artwork and BBS transfers. Choose a release compatible with your operating system.
General SSH/Telnet alternative: official PuTTY 0.85, unmodified and digitally signed by Simon Tatham:
Download PuTTY Windows x64
Download PuTTY Windows x86
License · SHA-256 checksums · Upstream and newer releases
Choose SSH, bbs.unixtechlab.dev, port 2222. A 32-bit build does not imply Windows 3.1/95 compatibility. PuTTY is a terminal client, not an IRC client.
Linux and macOS BBS
SyncTERM official platform downloads and source. On Linux, use the official build guidance for your distribution. On macOS, choose a build matching your OS and processor.
ssh -p 2222 [email protected]
Use your BBS password; no Linux root account is needed. Choose 80 columns and ANSI/CP437 when supported.
IRC chat clients
mIRC for Windows (shareware), WeeChat and Irssi for compatible Unix systems. Get Linux packages through your distribution or follow official build instructions.
Server: irc.unixtechlab.dev · TLS port 6697 · channel #underground. Your IRC account is separate from your BBS account. For clients without TLS, legacy port 6667 is available without encryption.
Apple mobile and vintage hardware
iPhone/iPad: browser BBS or browser IRC. Classic Mac OS, Apple II, Windows 3.1 and early Linux: see the vintage connection guide. Those machines need OS-compatible client software or a local gateway; modern installers are not labeled as vintage-compatible.
Telephone dial-in is not configured. Hardware-specific clients and adapters still need testing.

Legacy gateways are live through cPanel and pfSense; public connection checks passed. Prefer encrypted SSH/TLS. Telnet, RLogin and plain IRC carry passwords without encryption.
